Bangor, ME - The Jackson Laboratory, located in Bar Harbor, has been identified by the Wellness Council of America as a Gold Level Well Workplace. The recognition, received by only a handful of Maine companies, evaluates the quality of a company's health promotion programs for its own employees.

Mae Landesman, Jackson Lab's Senior Director of Human Resources, Health & Safety, remarked on the accomplishment, "As a research organization dedicated to leading the search for tomorrow's cures, it is very rewarding to have that energy directed at our employees and their families. We are extremely pleased with this award which reflects the hard work and dedication of our employees and the tremendous support from the Laboratory's senior leadership without which this would not have been possible."

Dr. David Hunnicutt, President of the Wellness Council of America said, "Jackson Lab has worked hard to meet the challenge of becoming one of America's Healthiest Companies. They have made a clear commitment to protecting the health and well-being of their most valuable asset - their employees."

The Gold Well Workplace Award recognizes those companies that have successfully built comprehensive worksite wellness initiatives and are demonstrating and capturing concrete outcomes related to behavior change, productivity, cost effectiveness, and return on investment.

"This is a significant recognition by a world renowned organization at the forefront of promoting well workplaces," said Jaime Laliberte, Director of the Wellness Council of Maine, an affiliate of the Wellness Council of America.

Thirteen other companies in Maine have achieved and sustained Gold Well Workplace awards including: Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield, now a Platinum Award Winner; Brewer Automotive Components; Dorothea Dix Psychiatric Center; Eastern Maine Medical Center; Mayo Regional Hospital; Maine School Administrative District #22; Millinocket Regional Hospital; Northeastern Log Homes, Inc. & Old Town Lumber Company, Inc.; Occupational Medical Consulting, LLC; Penobscot Valley Hospital; The University of Maine at Augusta; The University of Maine at Farmington and The University of Southern Maine.

The Wellness Council of Maine, a program of the Bangor Region Chamber of Commerce, provides resources, leadership, guidance and support for businesses statewide to develop and enhance results-oriented workplace wellness initiatives.
